Build!

I hope you have evaluated yourself on why you are doing the things you are doing. I assume that you have decided that you are doing what you are doing in order to build a sustainable business.

We all know what a business is, one offers a product or a service at a price. This is however not the side I am looking at this week. I want to look at the structures behind the transactions. Out of the 5 business structures we have in South Africa I am specifically looking at a company ( Pty Ltd).

This has ownership and management. Owners are the founders, and directors  and it is required that there should be a board where decisions and other matters are discussed. Then we have management(CEO,Managers) these are the people that manage the daily operations of the company.

We have to understand that you can own and not manage a company.  So when you start a business you need to decide on what you intent to do in the company. You can be owner or the manager. However most black households are programmed to be on the managing side or the Woking side, do not get me wrong I am not against those who do but not everyone must do that.

When you own a company your share can be given to your descendents and you will never run out of money unless the business fails but if you have a strong innovative and creative structure, this is just impossible.

When you are a manager you can be fired and easily replaced or if you are only in it for money you will get tired when the business is not making any.

We need to educate ourselves on these crucial things because  they affect us long term.

For example 30% of the South African youth is unemployed and we are looking for jobs in companies that  mostly are not owned by black people. Again this takes us to white privilege where you find newly gradutes  in high positions but have a black child with honours unemployed.

You can't blame them because the company belongs to their great grand parents and they can do as they please. But with the black household we have to start with internships, learnerships and volunteering all because we don't have companies of our own. For example if your ancle had a law firm you would study law and then work in his business with no hassle but  really we don't have that.

We will continue to be workers and continue to produce workers if we don't innovate and add value. What I am stressing here is that we need to have businesses that will hold for generations to come so that we have " Black privilege". Be in it for long term, be in it for sustainability, be in it for value.

Build, innovate and add value.

Supply

Supply- supply is the amount of a resource that firms, producers, labourers, providers of financial assets, or other economic agents are willing and able to provide to the marketplace or to an individual. Supply can be in produced goods, labour time, raw materials, or any other scarce or valuable object ( WikiPedia) I found this topic to be of great interest in a sense that one can be in and out of business because of a supplier. Demand and supply makes up the foundation of an economy. In business we can have an obstacle of a supplier. Recently I have halted selling a product due to a problem I had with a supplier. The supplier ran out of business and it was difficult to even find another supplier nearby. A supplier can increase prices meaning you also have to increase your prices. This seems simple but it tends to be difficult to maintain one’s clientele in such a situation.   This problem of suppliers come with the risk of running a business, one must always be on the look...

Physical efforts

Taking care of your health. When you are in business you are taking care of alot of things and people. One must be both mentally and physically fit to exercise such responsibility. Reading is an exercise for the mind and working out or running is for the body. Business is about trust and how do you trust someone who looks like they are about to give birth? That is unhealthy. Heath concerns me alot and people need to educate themselves about the kind of food they need to eat. A healthy individual will run a healthy business. Physically appearance is everything especially in the service sector. Therefore, be neat, healthy and fit. Exercising for an hour a day will make a whole difference in your life and your business. Develop that mind

Why Recording Transactions is Crucial for Business

Accurate transaction recording is the backbone of any successful business. Whether small or large, businesses must maintain proper financial records to track income, expenses, and financial health. In South Africa, where compliance with tax and financial regulations is crucial, proper bookkeeping ensures smooth operations and legal adherence. Today we explore the significance of recording transactions, the role of source documents, the necessity of securely storing invoices, slips, and bank statements, and what the IFRS for SMEs requires regarding transaction recording.  Why Recording Transactions Matters Recording transactions systematically helps businesses in several ways: Financial Accuracy: Ensures businesses track profits and losses accurately. Legal and Tax Compliance: Proper records are essential for SARS (South African Revenue Service) tax filings.
